As sailors, we should be incredibly proud of what we do and what we stand for, and we should not take any guff from anyone. Bill Hockett, Capt., USNR-Ret.

What a thrill to see planes launch again. Served on USS FORRESTAL (CVA-59) in Vietnam with VF-11 (now VFA-11.) It did my heart good to see several of the VFA-11 aircraft launch and in flight. May God bless our military men and women. They are doing an awesome job in every branch of service.

  3. ROBY says:

there are those of us who were and are a very small part of the navy who sometimes have to do a job that is a little more personal. the navy manages to get us there, keep up with us and when we get the job done pull us out. will be eternally greatful for the crews of the midway and oriskany who flew top cover, close air support and launched into the north.

Makes me proud to see my old squadron, VF-14 Tophatters, still flying the latest planes in the fleet and going strong.

Glad we keep building them. I was on the Constellation, Kitty Hawk, Coral Sea, Midway, Ranger, Enterprise, and Carl Vinson, over 12 years. I pity the fool that picks a fight with a bird farm!

I was on the F.D.R. CVA-42 in 1957&8 It we the best time of my life!!

  7. Wayne Warner says:

Awesome video. How we ought to be thankful for the people who use high tech to design these ships and planes and the people who operate them to keep us free. I served in the Army at the tail end of the Korean War so never got close to combat. But I had two brothers who were Navy–one on a seaplane tender at Okinawa during WWII. The other brother was trained for minesweeper duties. My parents said goodbye to their seven sons from 1942 to 1959 as they marched off to the Army and Navy. How much I appreciate the troops today and the veterans for what they have done to keep America free. Today I direct a veterans group. May God bless our troops and veterans and God bless America.

I served or landed on six different carriers in a 22 month period 1958-1960. Carrier qualified on the Hancock, Later served on the Yorktown, Hornet, Ticonderoga, Ranger and made an emergency night landing on the Forrestal while TAD in Oceana. Was stationed at North Island and flew AD skyraiders. I am probably one of the few pilots left who experienced both the hydraulic and steam catapults. There is a difference!
